What is KVEST?
KVEST ( Estonglish? version of the English word quest) is an undertaking which roots extend all the way back to 2019. Before the pandemic hit we had an idea that the tabletop roleplaying game known as Dungeons & Dragons should spread to wider audiences in Estonia. Thus far it had existed for decades as tiny underground guilds but they were all doing their thing separately from each other.
But it does not have to be that way. D&D has never been a taboo satanistic movement-cult thing in Estonia. Despite that, there have not been any communities or channels after dragon.ee faded away that would offer information or a place to talk to people interested in the game.
Thus a decision was made – if not us, then who? So, it’s us. Idea of KVEST, a Dungeons & Dragons community was born. Even tough the road from idea to execution took longer that expected, on the 25th of November 2020 we made our activity public.
At MängudeÖÖ 2021 we had the honour of organizing the first live Estonian Dungeons & Dragons live play event. The awesome players to join us at the table were Rauno Meronen, Kristjan Lüüs and Märt Koik.
We had a flattering problem – free seats were filled quickly so people had to sit on stairs and stand where they could. The dragon was slain and everyone barely escaped with their lives.
The night ended but the characters continue their adventure on our game series “Relm” on YouTube.
Community has always been the core of our actions and plans. Connect and grow – that has been our overall aim. We wanted to connect and give voice to people already playing the game and on the other hand offer newcomers simple and guided entry to the world of D&D.
Community’s most active part is our Discord server, where members can share ideas, thoughts, stories, news and opinions. Today it is the largest D&D focused channel in Estonia.
Furthermore, we include the community to our occasional live-streams where the audience has an important role to play.
In addition to KVEST’s activities we consider our love for the game extremely important. So we organize and play in games that take place outside of KVEST and are not recorded. We play just for fun and for ourselves.
KVEST’s activities do not end with Discord. We actively post articles and news related to D&D on our website and upload live-play D&D games and informative clips to our YouTube channel.
Groupfinder is KVEST’s original application and it’s goal is to connect players. We have created a tool for players who want to find a group to play with and for groups who are looking for individual players.
Futhermore, KVEST has a webstore where you can find the widest selection of Dungeons & Dragons products in Estonia. We are constantly communicating with and looking for smaller and larger publications and distributors so that we could offer a wide-ranging selection. Because our goal here at KVEST is to help popularize the game, we keep our prices at affordable levels.
Many of our every day activities are quietly happening in the background. We design and develop different tools that would enrich the world of D&D and tabletop-RPGs. If you have any ideas or propositions we would be happy to hear from you. We are small in our actions but everything we do, we do with our hearts.
“Did you know?” are KVEST’s nuggets of knowledge in video form. In a few minute long comprehensive video the viewer can learn about a D&D or other TTRPG topic.
Even though there’s only one person in front of the camera, the whole team contributes to video’s research.
Did you know that in KVEST’s rooms also known as KVESTHUB there’s a frequent visitor – Hubert the Dog, who watches over us so that all the plans get done and no food is left uneaten.
Faces and names behind KVEST’s different activities are several. They might not always stand out but that does not mean that we dont need or value them. We would not work without friends and contributors.
We are all volunteers and do this because of our love for improving the scene. If this is something that speaks to you then contact us. Let’s talk how you could be part of KVEST.
In addition, we are open to all offers of cooperation that would improve and develop the field. Just give us a shout and let’s talk.
