How to find a DnD group to play with?

How to find a DnD group to play with?

So, you’ve got your dice, a character idea, and the urge to roll for initiative — but there’s one big problem: you don’t have a group to play Dungeons & Dragons with.

Don’t worry, you’re not alone. Finding a D&D group can feel tricky, especially if you’re new to the hobby or recently moved to a new area. Fortunately, there are more ways than ever to connect with other players, whether you prefer online sessions or games around a real-world table.

Let’s go through the best ways to find a D&D group and why Groupfinder.eu is one of the easiest tools to get started.

Use a Dedicated D&D Group-Finding Platform

While social media and Discord servers can be hit-or-miss, Groupfinder.eu was built specifically for tabletop RPG players.

Groupfinder lets you:

  • Search for D&D groups by location, language, or online platform
  • Create your own listing as a player or Dungeon Master
  • Find both online and in-person games across Europe and beyond
  • Message and connect easily through integrated chat

Whether you’re looking for a casual one-shot, a long-term campaign, or even players for other RPGs like Pathfinder or Cyberpunk, Groupfinder makes the process simple and organized.

Join Local D&D Communities

If you prefer face-to-face play, check out:

  • Local game stores (many host D&D nights or Adventurers League sessions)
  • Facebook groups or Reddit communities for your city or region
  • University or library clubs, which often welcome newcomers

Still, these methods can be hit-or-miss depending on where you live. That’s why Groupfinder’s location-based search is so helpful, it automatically shows you who’s nearby and currently looking for a group.

Explore Online D&D Platforms

If meeting in person isn’t an option, you can play D&D completely online. Platforms like Roll20, Foundry VTT, and Discord make it easy to roll dice, share maps, and voice chat with players from anywhere.

Groupfinder supports these tools too, many listings clearly show which platform a game uses, so you can join the kind of setup you prefer.

Create Your Own Listing as a Player or DM

You don’t have to wait for the perfect post to appear, you can create your own listing on Groupfinder in just a few minutes.

When creating your listing, include:

  • The edition you want to play (e.g., D&D 5E)
  • Your experience level (beginner, casual, experienced)
  • Your availability and time zone
  • A short description of what kind of game you enjoy

Once posted, other players and DMs can reach out to you directly, no endless scrolling or awkward introductions.

Be Open, Friendly, and Patient

Finding the right group might take a bit of time, especially if you’re looking for a specific playstyle. Don’t get discouraged!

Here are a few quick tips:

  • Say what kind of play you enjoy (combat, story, roleplay, etc.)
  • Join a one-shot to meet new people before committing to a campaign
  • Respect other players’ time and boundaries
  • Remember: the best D&D groups are built on trust, fun, and shared creativity

Whether you’re a first-time adventurer or a veteran Dungeon Master, Groupfinder makes it easier than ever to connect with players who share your style and schedule.

Skip the endless Discord scrolling and join a growing community of tabletop fans.
